It's getting harder and harder to break my excitement down to bite sized journal entries. Especially when I don't write on here everyday. One of the things that has kept my brain buzzing the last couple weeks is that I've recently found myself one person away from all of the still-active Nashville A Team. Through my buddy (and bassist) Nathan Thomas, I've gotten to know local producer Kurt Storey who frequently works (and hangs out with) Musician Hall of Famers like Bob Moore, "Pig" Robbins, Charlie McCoy, and Buddy Spicher. All of whom have worked with legends like ELVIS, DYLAN, George Jones, Patsy Cline... need I go on? A few of them also worked on Ween's 12 Golden Country Greats (1996), and Bonnie "Prince" Billy's Sings Greatest Palace Music (2004), two of my favorite more recent Nashville albums.
So now I feel inspired to try and write my best material, and get as many of these guys on board as I can. I'm considering doing something like Bonnie "Prince" Billy's album, and gathering some of my better songs from the past, combined with some new songs and doing a "Shane Sings His Greatest with the Nashville A Team" kind of record (but hopefully with a better title). This might be a purely self-indulgent concept, but I can't let an opportunity like this pass me up.
On the home-front, Meagan got a job! She's working as a receptionist at a nearby car dealership. Today is her first day, so I am at home rehearsing for my solo show tonight at Drifters BBQ (the place that gave me my first show in town). I'm gonna play a couple new songs, and some new covers as well, but over-all hopefully just a better version of my last set there. If you are in town come out!
